For an incredible outdoors' experience, this coastal reserve has two stunning hiking trails; the Ipithi Trail on the south bank of the river is 1.2 kilometres, and the Yengele Trail, which winds through the dune forests is 1.8 kilometres.
The Mpenjati River Lagoon is also a popular venue for water-based recreation including angling, boating and swimming. It is also very popular for bird watching. The beach in the reserve has been used by nudists for many years.
This is situated on the Mpenjati River and has a large variety of fauna and flora, including some of the most environmentally significant species in the province, for example the red, blue and grey duiker (the red duiker is on the IUCN red list as a threatened species. It also boasts many birds, namely: the osprey, giant king-fisher, green twinspot, forest canary, orange-breasted bush shrike and black-bellied starling, etc. It includes wetlands, dune forests and grasslands.
