The monument of the victory of Octavius Augustus in 31 BC against Cleopatra and Antonius in the naval battle of Actium in the straits in front of modern day Preveza. Octavius was the founder of Nicopolis and this naval battle marked the transition of Rome from a republic to an Empire and established the roman peace, "pax romana".
