lidl inspires a kind of fanatical devotion in londoners. it is an incredibly cheap supermarket; you will not be able to buy most big brands, but they have pretty good own brand equivalents, & it is also absolutely the best place nearby to buy alcohol (though it will not be chilled).

Lowest cost, highest variety of grocery items. There are two Lidl's on the Broadway (Uxbridge Road), north of house. Walking distance or take busses.

Lidl sells all essential items such as produce and meat at extremely affordable prices. Note though, that a lot of brand name items, such as Coca-Cola, are unavailable, though they can be gotten at either the nearby Sainsbury's or Waitrose.
