Benedictine abbey with a superb chevet fleuron of the first southern Romanesque art. The early Carolingian church was partially demolished and replaced by the current building, which was built from the 11th to the 14th century. The remains of the first abbey were discovered in the crypt, the single nave and its vault eighteenth century, a remarkable marble decor in the sanctuary and the apsidioles. The choir of the monks contains a reliquary containing the relics of the "Holy Martyrs of Caunes" honoured since the Xth century.

This 8th century abbey is continually evolving and is not only a wonder in itself but houses art exhibitions and stages concerts. Caune is home to world famous quarries of red marble and is copious adorned with marble sculptures.
