INGLES: What was known as the Convento de la Merced in the 17th century is today an important monument - a tourist and cultural attraction - where the ashes of the Nobel Prize winner for Literature Gabriel García Márquez rest. The wish of this Colombian writer was that his ashes rest in Cartagena de Indias, in the same place where the ashes were deposited not only the monks and nuns of more than 300 years ago, but also the popular armies of the first independence rebellion led by Pedro Romero, and in that same place, the armies of Pablo Morillo's reconquest turned the colonial enclosure into a prison for the rebels, and a strategic place for the executions of the Siege of Morillo in 1815. A century later, the same cloister was the Court of Justice, and another century later, headquarters of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University and later, one of the headquarters of the University of Cartagena. ESPAÑOL: Lo que en el siglo XVII se conoció como el Convento de la Merced, es hoy un importante monumento -atractivo turístico y cultural- donde reposan las cenizas del Nobel de Literatura Gabriel García Márquez. El deseo de este escritor colombiano fue que sus cenizas reposaran en Cartagena de Indias, en el mismo sitio donde depositaron las cenizas no solo deambulaban las monjes y las monjas de hace más de 300 años, sino los ejércitos populares de la primera rebelión independista liderada por Pedro Romero, y en ese mismo lugar, los ejércitos de la reconquista de Pablo Morillo convirtieron el recinto colonial en cárcel de los sublevados, y en lugar estratégico para las ejecuciones del Sitio de Morillo de 1815. Un siglo después, el mismo claustro fue el Tribunal de Justicia, y otro siglo después, sede de la Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano y más tarde, una de las sedes de la Universidad de Cartagena.
