You can’t go wrong with shave ice anywhere in Hawaii. Anuenue is the one we go to. The portions are huge so you might want to share and for extra you can top it off with ice cream. The line could be long depending on the time of day but it goes by fairly quickly for a place that has just a couple of folks working the counter. Bring cash as they don’t accept cards.

The only remaining shave ice shop in Kawaihae. Not as good as Original Big Island Shave Ice, but it's local if you don't feel like driving up to Waimea to get a shave ice from the best. Still good. Just not great.

Just north of Spencer Beach along the coastline is the little fishing town of Kawaihae with local grindz from seafood restaurants to fried chicken at the convenience store where you can also get gas. GETTNG HERE: Take Hwy 19 north until it ends and turn left and you run right into it past the port.
