A 70min drive. Waterfalls, volcanic boulder formations, it’s a must-see. There are many walking tracks that weave through the sub-tropical rainforest. One of the most popular trails starts at the Finch Hatton picnic area and takes you on a 1.6 km journey to the beautiful Araluen waterfall. Keep an eye out among the rainforest for rare and unusual flora and fauna, such as the rare gastric-brooding frog, the orange-sided skink, Mackay tulip oak, Eungella spiny cray and Eungella honeyeater.

The area is home to many birds and animals such as bush turkey, brolga, azure kingfisher, eungella honeyeater, monitor lizard, wallaby, platypus, possum and flying fox. Ulysses’ and birdwing butterflies fly by regularly.
A beautiful walk to stunning swimming holes and waterfalls. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it. The first waterfall is around 30 min walk and the Ring of Fire waterfall is a full morning or afternoon adventure, a good 45mins-1 hour one way and well worth it.
