A must; the most impressive museum in Kristiansand with authentic equipment from a former military installation built in 1941-44 by the German navy during WW II. Together with its sister battery at Hanstholm in Denmark, they formed a barrier strategy that Adolf Hitler worked on personally: to obstruct Allied naval forces by blocking the Skagerrak and the seaways to Eastern Norway, Kattegatt Bay and the Baltic Sea. Only a field of ten nautical miles wide could not be covered and was therefore mined. The fortress had four gun positions, one still intact: a 38 cm calibre gun, one of the largest remaining land-based guns in the World; weighs 110 tons, 20 m long with a range up to 55 km

Another attraction well worth visiting is Kristiansand cannon museum at Møvik fortress. The fortress was built by the German Navy during WW2, and the museum offers fascinating insights into the war’s history. Today, the dramatic past feels close yet far away as you ride the old ammunition railway through the tranquil and idyllic scenery with panoramic views over the archipelago in Kristiansand.
