This museum focuses on Wellington only, and is definitely worth a visit. It has many floors of fascinating content about the Capital and sometimes hosts events.
Interesting exhibits and stories of Wellington. Quite different from Te Papa and very worthwhile. Just opposite the Academy of Fine Arts and near the NZ Portrait Gallery too.
A smaller museum and an interesting (and free) way to learn more about the history of this great little city.
In 2013, when it was known as the Museum of Wellington City & Sea, it was named as one of the world's 50 best museums, after Britain's The Times commissioned a panel of ''inveterate'' museum-goers to come up with the a list of the world's 50 best museums. (It was ranked at no 41) The list largely favoured European and United States museums with just a handful from the Southern Hemisphere. No other New Zealand museum made the list and only the Australian Museum in Sydney got a mention in Australia. I have visited here numerous times and never tire of the stories of local history and well laid out exhibits.
