Mount Skaros is located on the eastern side of Lefkada and has a maximum altitude of 673 m. It consists almost exclusively of limestone rocks, except the soils of the BA slopes of the mountain, including the top, created by tertiary deposits. More generally the area is characterized by slight slopes, rounded peaks and slight erosion. On the outskirts of the eastern slopes of Mount Skaros is the Monastery of the Red Church, built at the end of the 15th century and one of the oldest religious monuments of the island. The area's special interest lies in the remains of the oak forest located in the upper parts of the mountain and consists of Quercus frainetto, Q. ilex, Q. macrolepis and Q. pubescens.
