For over a century, CavƩ pastry shop has been a must-go place during a visit to Rio Downtwn. Getting inside is a journey to the past to relive a little bit of the Ancient Rio. First pastry shop in town, it was founded in March 1860 by Charles Auguste CavƩ, a French man who led the business through 1922. It was later taken by Portuguese associates who brought to the menu dishes which still can be found there, such as the famous Pastel de BelƩm (Portuguese custard tarts), toucinho do cƩu (Portuguese almond cake), and dom Rodrigo, which is made with egg threads and cinnamon.
