Agia Efimia is a charming little harbour with lovely taverns, cafés, and shops, looking across the sea to the neighbouring island of Ithaca. The sailing boats, which moor here in the summer, add maritime and Mediterranean flair to the village. Surrounding Agia Efimia there are numerous little white pebble coves with crystal clear water, ideal for snorkelling. For those interested there is a professional diving school based in the village, and also small motorboats and catamarans available for hire. It is strongly recommended to rent a motorboat and visit the idyllic, isolated coves between Agia Efimia and Fiskardo, which are accessible only by boat. Furthermore, you can take a boat and visit the beautiful island of Ithaca for a day. In the summer, the village awakes and offers its guests a warm hospitality and authentic Greek life. The small taverns open, lively discussions resume in the "Kafenios", the promenade becomes coloured, and everybody enjoys the most beautiful days of the year in a harmonious and authentically Greek atmosphere.

The village of Makriotika is situated 5km from the picturesque port of Agia Efimia, framed by high mountains, on a height of more than 200 metres. The Kefalonians call it "The balcony of Pylaros", as it offers, indeed, a fascinating view across the wide valley of Pylaros: the harbour of Agia Efimia, the sea, the surrounding high mountains and the small traditional villages. Across the water, you can see Ithaca and some days you can even make out the mountains of Peloponnes. Makriotika is located in the centre of the island, and is thus an ideal base for exploring the island. Here you can taste the flavour of the authentic Greek life. A nice "Platia" (village square), small red-roofed houses with flower-filled terraces, a traditional café, a friendly tavern, a mini-market, a school and - as in each Greek village - a church. In the summer, the Platia is filled with playing children, native and emigrant Kefalonians and tourists.

Little known rustic beach experience, a taste of Greek beach life that has remained unchanged for generations. Highly recommended: A lunch of locally caught fish and own naturally cultivated food products at the tavern on the harbour front, where the little boats come and go throughout day.
