Food Scene
Posh pub food, great service and fairly priced - never lets me down! The bar is quite dark so I tend to go there more in winter than in summer.

A unique little restaurant on a nice side street. Food tends to be fresh & light with good fish and vegetarian options. I love the fishy wallpaper!

If you want to splurge a bit or have a nice rosemantic meal, Rinuccini is a local favourite. Old school Italian, immaculate service in an old world dining room. Great place for long lunches! Early bird is good value, probably need to book in advance for dinner its always popular and always a treat.

Parks & Nature
Apart from the huge great castle, the surrounding park is pretty gorgeous for walks or a run. You can drop from the park down to the canal bank, and walk along the river for miles and miles.

From the city centre, starting at Canal Square there is a gorgeous walk along the river for miles and miles. You can do a loop, across the wooden bridge or keep going to explore some old mill ruins. If you are very energetic and up for a serious walk, you can ramble all the way to Bennetsbridge, will take a couple of hours and the riverside is yours. Maybe grab a taxi back!

Rothe House will be in your guide books as a must see and I must second that. The house, courtyards and artifacts are fascinating and the restored medieval garden is a lovely little oasis. Bring a sambo/cup of coffee and enjoy!

Essentials
Great for local and organic produce. The sandwich of the day, on a locally made spelt baguette is jam packed with goodness, also great takeaway coffee.

Drinks & Nightlife
Probably the best place for live music locally - if you're into small, jam packed, sweaty but often brilliant gigs, head in here.

I love this bar for morning coffee or after work drinks. Its cosy and chatty, rather than loud and shouty, and sometimes you just need that. If you get stuck in for late drinks, so much the better.

A proper traditional local bar, but with concessions to a decent wine list and some interesting beer. On a cold evening a seat by the fire is the best place in town. Occasional live music too, but I just like it for chats and meet ups.
