Less than 3 miles from Grandma’s Gift is Bear Run Nature Reserve, which spans over 5,000 acres. The reserve offers more than 20 miles of hiking trails that traverse diverse natural landscapes, from the solitude of dense oak and hemlock forests to the sparkling waters of Bear Run. All hiking trails begin at the same location. A personal favorite is the Peninsula Trail, a 2.5-mile loop. This steep, rocky trail along the Youghiogheny River offers two dramatic views of the river.

Fifteen miles of hiking trails span this wonderful state park. A nice four-mile loop can be made out of the Pump House, Tram Road, Pump House Extension, Martz, and Water Line Trails. Among all the trails our personal favorite trail is the Tram Road Trail, which passes the Jones Mill Run Dam (pictured). Laurel Hill State Park is also a hot spot for fishing. Bass, trout, catfish, sucker, bluegill, perch, crappie and sunfish are all found beneath its waters.

Looking for some indoor fun while still feeling like you’re doing an outdoor activity? If you are willing to travel about 40 minutes you can explore Pennsylvania’s largest cave. With nearly three miles of passages the place has been called a “maze cave” and is listed as the 16th longest cave in the United States. In addition to exploring the cave, you can do some rappelling and spelunking. Please note that the cave temperature is about 52 degrees all year round, so dress accordingly.

The house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and in 1991, members of the American Institute of Architects named Fallingwater the "best all-time work of American architecture" and in 2007, it was ranked 29th on the list of America's Favorite Architecture according to the AIA.[7] It and seven other Wright constructions were inscribed on the World Heritage List under the title "The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright" in July 2019.
