Sightseeing

You can ride the elevator up to the bar at the top of the Stratosphere hotel for free and walk up to the observation deck. The views of the strip and surrounding Las Vegas are PHENOMENAL! If while you're there, you feel the need to jump off the side of the stratosphere, you can purchase a ticket and do just that (safely, of course)! Tell me how it goes..... I've never done it.

Parks & Nature

Mount Charleston is the tallest mountain in Nevada at 11,916 feet. Just 30 Minutes from Las Vegas, you will find great places to hike among large trees, a waterfall, and a rather nice restaurant with live music daily. Be sure to check it out. :)

This is where you go if you don't have much time. It's only 5 minutes outside of town. There is a scenic drive loop, with lots of places to get out and hike around. There is a trail system that has many miles of hiking or mountain biking trails. There are also a good number of good outdoor rock climbing routes.

Great place to hike and sight see. Take a picnic. There are numerous shelters with picnic tables. The place is named after the rocks which stick up from the valley floor and are a vibrant dark red. There are numerous opportunities for adults and children alike to climb all over all sorts of natural rock formations and through slot canyons. You will find Indian Petroglyphs on the rock faces everywhere giving the place a sense of ancient wonder. There is even an old movie set from way back in the western days that you can hike down to from a parking lot.

Getting Around

Rent a car during your stay. Cars are cheaper in Vegas than Uber or Lyft most of the time and parking at our house is free. You can hop a shuttle right outside the baggage claim that will take you speedily to the McCarran car rental building that has quite a few rental companies represented. Just ask an airport employee to direct you to the car rental shuttles. Also, if you're here for the strip, parking at hotels is free, or pretty reasonable. so no worries there either, not to mention that there is free parking around all around the strip. Check out near the High Roller, the giant ferris wheel, there are several free lots right near it, very central on the strip.

If you want to use UBER or Lyft from the airport, there is a pickup spot at McCarran airport in the same parking garage as Long term/Short term/Valet parking. Check out my notes on renting cars in Vegas. Often times it's cheaper.
