"Frauenkirche", or "Women's Church", in English, was bombed to pieces in WWII but later resurrected. Even if churches don't excite you, it's really beautiful and is surrounded by beautiful buildings built in a typical German style, with lots of talented street performers hanging out around there too.

Near Frauenkirche there are some steps you can walk up to arrive at a big "balcony" of sorts overlooking the river...but you can walk along this pathway for some time in both directions, surveying the river, the old buildings, and some lovely ornamental landscape designs. Especially nice on a sunny day in the summer.

Back in the day when Saxony was a kingdom, the Lords of Saxony lived in the Zwinger. Not all together, mind you. At different points in history. It's a big old building-complex and now there are classical music concerts and stuff like that in it. Nice to walk around.

This little-known Avant-Garde theater in Hellerau is actually the birthplace of opera! Extremely famous and well-reputed acts from all around the world put on shows (mostly in modern dance) at this theater, but since no one knows about it and it's not in the city center, sometimes there is barely any attendance. If you're interested in Avant-Garde theater, seeing something at the theater in Hellerau is a must-do.

Parks & Nature
Did you know there's a giant forest with heaps of walking and biking trails starting right in Neustadt?! It's pretty neat! I've lived here for nearly a year and still haven't explored all of Dresden Heide...it's huge! If you enjoy the sound of water flowing gently over rocks in a stream, if you like leaves and trees and walking but prefer not to take the train somewhere or climb a mountain, or even if you just like walking around and meeting people's dogs, then you'll have a lovely time exploring Dresden Heide.

Sächsische Schweiz, or "Saxony Switzerland", refers to the sandstone mountains outside of Dresden. You can reach them by train in less than an hour from the bottom of our street. There are many hikes there; ask me if you want more specific recommendations :)
