Food Scene
When I use to travel to Hong Kong I would always head straight to this Sheung Wan cafe directly from the airport. Fast forward three years and Cupping Room has expanded to now four locations, including most recently a flagship Roastery space in the very trendy area of Po Hing Fong. Three years ago I noted in my travel journal how great the cup of coffee was from here. I also noted that they were leading the speciality coffee industry in Hong Kong, through coffee experimentation, education and all round coffee excellence. I still believe they are at the top of the game, headed by Friend of mine Dawn Chan - Hong Kong Barista Champion 2014 and 4th placed World Barista Championship 2015.

Elephant Grounds is my stomping ground in Hong Kong (excuse the pun), you will often find me hiding in the corner, sipping away on a flat white whilst powering through some work on the go. Elephant Grounds began as a concept back in 2013 at the back of WOAW lifestyle store in Sheung Wan and now has grown into it's own mammoth brand with four locations in just a matter of years.
The Causeway Bay and Star Street branches are close by and worth a visit. they do a good avo and toast!
Beside great coffee, excellent brunch and an 'on point' Spotify soundtrack, they also do a mean icecream sandwich, one of the coolest place in Hong Kong to "Coffee and Chill".

if you like minimalist vibes, Ethos is the place for you, the space has an understated and raw interior occupying an irregular floor floor on Hill Road in Kennedy Town. The coffee is also no fuss and one of the best cups in town and some great filtered and cold brew options. Ethos also has an impressive food program, with your regular brunch favourites and often specials with truffle. The adjacent space to the cafe is a creative exhibition/events space with a retail store that has a well curated capsule collection of lifestyle products, stationary and home wares which is perfect for a browse as you queue for a table in this very popular cafe.

Omotesando Koffee is another well designed cafe with minimalist vibes, the space is very Japanese, it both ethos and service, the Wan Chai branch in Hong Kong is Omotesando Koffee's first international expansion. They started with a modest coffee shop tucked away in the quiet suburban streets of trendy Omotesando in Tokyo (my favourite cafe in the world). As you would expect the attention to detail is second to none here, the space is beautiful as is the branding, its a well rounded package. Make sure you order a baked custard or two to go with your coffee, it's divine.

Located in one of my favourite parts of Kowloon, the working class area known as Sham Shui Po, amid car workshops, recycling centres and wholesaling fabric stores, it is probably the last area you would expect to find a hipster speciality coffee shop. The space is a hybrid of workshop, gallery and coffee shop. Creativity and craftsmanship are core values of Common Room and this is reflected in the way they make coffee. In keeping with the concept of the space, they also have on their menu a DIY brew offering, where by you select your equipment (v60 or AeroPress) and choice of beans, then as you guessed it, you brew your own cup.
