Food Scene
Open since 1911, and still operated by the Gaido family, this is THE Galveston institution. Classic Gulf Coast seafood dishes take center stage, but the menu has newer dishes brought by CIA trained chefs. Our kids get a kick out of the finger bowls. PAIX BLEU TIP: We recommend going in the evening, because as we age -for people and places too - soft-lighting is better. If you go in the afternoon, the food and service will be great, but you will see what we mean.

A local favorite! When my husband was in high school, he and his friends used to eat here after surfing. Not much has changed since the 70's. He still recommends the po-boys.

The Elissa is the second oldest sailing vessel in the US. Year round, volunteers work on keeping her "ship shape" while quite literally, "learning the ropes" to persevere not only the ship, but the art of sailing a square rigged 19th century vessel.
Once a year, the Elissa is more than a museum when the crew takes her out and sail the open seas.

Make a sack lunch, grab some beach towels for an ideal picnic watching the ships come in and out of the ship channel. You can also get a fishing pole, and if you are brave, attempt crabbing.

Shopping
I cannot walk in this store without my American Express coming out. There are always so many interesting housewares, items by local artists, and the couple that runs it are so patient and wonderful. PAIX BLEU TIP: Take home a Tibetan sound bowl.
