Another amazing day trip saving the need to pack up and relocate. Neil went to college in Oxford and it's one of his favourite places. Incredible buildings (don't miss the Queens College Library, Magdalen College Deer Park and it's atmospheric Cloisters and the serene Christchurch Meadows.
Buy lunch in the medieval covered market, rent a punt for a peaceful trip on the River Isis and take in the Botanical Gardens, the oldest in the UK. And all this in one remarkable day before returning to your peaceful London home. If you don't want to picnic on a punt, for good pub lunch try the Perch or the Trout

This is in east London and only open on Sundays but it’s a fun morning excursion by tube, bus or cab. If you love flowers (and we do which is one of the reasons we spend so much time at our house in Amsterdam!) it’s a really chilled thing to do.

Parks & Nature
Just a few minutes walk away and a haven of peace and quiet in the heart of London. It's beautiful at any time of year but especially lovely in Spring when the cherries are in bloom and the bulbs are in flower.
We have picnic things at the house and it's lovely to pack an evening picnic and walk to the park to enjoy it. If you like watching planes, sometimes the flight-path for Heathrow runs right over the park. We used to watch the Concorde on final approach in the evening. Still the most beautiful plane ever built IMHO
It has some hidden spots too; the Peter Pan Statue and the Diana Fountain

The Churchill, named after the eponymous politician is famous for its window boxes and hanging baskets as well as its beer.
It serves a cracking pint of London Pride Bitter and is choc-full of Winston Churchill-related memorabilia. It's a gentle 20 minute walk.
It also has a conservatory out-back which was one of London's very first Thai restaurants. It's still there, still one of the best and very affordable too.
