Hiking in the park
This is more of a walk along the rim on a paved path that goes over a geological explanation of how the canyon formed as you read the posted signs and the brochure along the way. It starts in just west next to the the Yavapai Geology Museum and goes all the way to Maricopa Point (which is on Hermits Rest Road) but most people just take it as far as the Grand Canyon Village (to the village is only about 1.4 miles in length).

This is a good short hike above the rim through the forest on a decent trail- awesome for kids and families. Has a lot picnic tables which makes for a great place to have lunch.

The South Kaibab Trail is suggested by the park service to NOT be hiked in the warmer months of May- September because of the temperatures that occur below the rim for new or unexperienced hikers at the Grand Canyon. Please go to the nps.gov website for more info about hiking.

The Bright Angel Trail is easily the most popular trail in the park followed by the South Kaibab trail. Well maintained and USUALLY has water refill stations at each rest house along the way to the bottom. This trail gets less overall sunlight and therefore is less suggested by the park service to be hiked in the colder months of October- May. Please go to the nps.gov website for more info about hiking.
