You must visit the capital of the Imbabura province. Just a 10 minute drive from the house. Visit the Cathedral of Ibarra, museums and its quaint cobble streets. Eat the traditional “Helado de Paila”, made right before your eyes on a bronze bowl. Ibarra has been recognized as the the city with the healthiest air and least pollution by the Latinamericanpost.com. The weather is unbeatable. If you’re in Ibarra at noon, you can get a hearty lunch in any of the downtown city’s family style restaurants for around $3.00 per person.

Saturdays are the busiest days. You can find restaurants and incredible little ice cream and coffee shops.
From Otavalo you can go to las Lagunas de Mojanda, Lago San Pablo, Cotacachi, Peguche waterfall, Parque Condor, many activities to chose from! In Otavalo, the views of the Imbabura volcano and the Andean mountains are a sight you will not forget.

The beautiful lake of Yahuarcocha is one of the focal points of our house along with the majestic volcano Imbabura. Yahuarcocha lake area offers many recreational activities such as biking, walking, or jogging. There is no entrance fee to the lake but you may rent a boat or ride on one of the fun shaped vessels on the pier for a small fee. There are many restaurants along the shore. You can also do paragliding and enjoy the lake from above.

Yahuarcocha
YahuarcochaThe beautiful lake of Yahuarcocha is one of the focal points of our house along with the majestic volcano Imbabura. Yahuarcocha lake area offers many recreational activities such as biking, walking, or jogging. There is no entrance fee to the lake but you may rent a boat or ride on one of the fun shaped vessels on the pier for a small fee. There are many restaurants along the shore. You can also do paragliding and enjoy the lake from above.

The Cuicocha Crater Lake is something out of this world. One of the biggest National Parks in Ecuador. It's a breathtaking lake with two islands in the middle. You can hike along the crater, see the amazing flora and fauna and on the weekends you can ride a boat on the lake.
Entrance to the park is free but you must register.
Tip: Visit early for best views.

Laguna de Cuicocha
The Cuicocha Crater Lake is something out of this world. One of the biggest National Parks in Ecuador. It's a breathtaking lake with two islands in the middle. You can hike along the crater, see the amazing flora and fauna and on the weekends you can ride a boat on the lake.
Entrance to the park is free but you must register.
Tip: Visit early for best views.
Peguche is an impressive 65ft / 20 Mts tall waterfall. It is about 30 min from our house just 3 miles from Otavalo. From the main entrance you will do a 15 minute walk on a trail that leads you to waterfall. There is no fee but they request a voluntary contribution. This waterfall is very close to Parque del Condor. You may want to do both activities on the same day.

Tinaguriang Peguche, Otavalo
Peguche is an impressive 65ft / 20 Mts tall waterfall. It is about 30 min from our house just 3 miles from Otavalo. Cotacachi, or City of Peace is 15 min from Otavalo. You can feel a special energy in this beautiful town. You can actually see the Cotacachi volcano from the house on the far right side. Wake up early and you will see the view at its best. The town of Cotacachi is recognized as the capital of the leather craft. There are approximately 105 shops where you can buy high quality leather goods. Make sure you eat the famous carnes Coloradas, very tasty pork, marinated with achiote and special spices with a yellow/orange color.

Parque del Condor is 30 min from our house. 5 min from Otavalo, on the Loma Pucara de Curyloma. It is a small zoo dedicated to the rescue of birds and educating the community on their importance. Wednesday to Sundays, weather permitting there are exhibitions at 11:30 AM and 3:30PM where you can see the spectacular flight of birds of prey above the valley of Otavalo. You can also see up close the condor of the Andes.
