Formed by the currents and tributaries of Utah’s Green and Colorado rivers, Canyonlands is filled with towering mesas, pinnacles, cliffs, spires, and deep canyons that stretch across 527 square miles.
My top recommendations for exploring The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park are as follows:
Definitely take the scenic route heading west from The Domes through the mountains.
Stop by Newspaper Rock and take in the spectacular plethora of petroglyphs.
During spring and early summer a beautiful purple carpet of wildflowers will cover the meadows at the base of the red rock mesa's and bluffs that'll the road winds between.
My top recommendations once you're in the park for hiking and scenic overlooks are; Big Spring Canyon Overlook, Colorado River Overlook, Elephant Hill Trail to Devils Kitchen and if you're up for it Druid's Arch (11 mile hike)

This is a truly unique location in Southeastern Utah. Remote and rugged backcountry, the area is accessible only by horse or on foot. The Anasazi ("Ancient Ones") flourished in Grand Gulch between 700 and 2,000 years ago. As a whole, the Grand Gulch Primitive Area sprawls over 37,500 acres of canyons and mesas, accessible via a number of trail heads, most of which are located just off S.R. 261.

City/town information
One of the best adventure towns in the world, Moab gained its reputation for outdoor recreation in the heart of red rock country.
As the adventure capital of the west there is nothing you can't do here; hiking galore, helicopter and plane sightseeing, Jeeping, ATVs, zip-lines, rafting, road biking, wildlife preserves, mountain biking, sand boarding and more!
The best food in town is at Zax Restaurant. I'd personally recommend the Jalapeño Bacon Mac and Cheese and Spinach Dip with Fried Pita.
