Food Scene in South End
Mac's has been in South End forever and is a great casual spot if you want to get some North Carolina BBQ. It has a sort of biker bar theme, but don't let that scare you. There are all types of people that frequent this restaurant. .

Activities
The WWC is the most popular attraction in the Charlotte area, but it is not touristy at all. Us locals that live here visit it all the time. It has virtually every outdoor activity that you can imagine. The most popular is the white water rafting - they built two man made rafting channels out of concrete. Additionally, they have zip lines, paddle boarding, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, live music, and more.

Crowders has the most popular hiking trails in the Charlotte area. It's about a 45 min. drive. There are several trails in the park and most can be completed in a couple of hours. The hikes range in difficulty and the park has good information on each of the trails in their information center. On a clear day, you can see the Charlotte skyline from one of their viewpoints.

Charlotte Neighborhoods
South End is arguably the most popular neighborhood in Charlotte due to the plethora of bars, breweries, restaurants, and luxury apartments in the area. It is very popular with the young crowds (20-40). The best way to explore South End is to walk, bike or scooter on the nearby rail trail. Lower South End (LoSo) is where the home is located and is anchored by five popular breweries/bars: Olde Mecklenburg, Queen Park Social, Protagonist, Sugar Creek, and Brewers at 4001 Yancy.

NoDa (short for "North Davidson") is a popular arts district in Charlotte. NoDa has some fantastic restaurants (Haberdish and Cabo Fish Taco are two of my favorites). Compared to South End, NoDa will have more of a 'hipster' vibe. Optimist Hall is also close to NoDa and is really cool food hall that has been very popular since it opened a few years ago.

The area in the middle of the city with high rise buildings is what we call Uptown in Charlotte. We don't actually have a downtown in Charlotte. In Uptown you'll find Bank of America stadium (Carolina Panthers) and Spectrum Center (Charlotte Hornets). Merchant & Trade and Fahrenheit are both good options to grab drinks and/or food on one of the uptown rooftops. I believe both have a dress code. If you love 80s and 90s music there is a bar/club called The Roxbury which is usually a good time.

Plaza Midwood is a chill little neighborhood just east of uptown. The best way I can describe it is that it's more hipster than South End, but not as hipster as NoDa. Soul Gastrolounge is a tapas style restaurant in that area that might be the most popular restaurant in Charlotte. If you go, the Pork Belly Tacos are a must. Join their waitlist online before you arrive...there's usually a long wait.
