This place gets super long lines at times but that’s because people love it. Some of their food is sourced from the owner’s farm in Corbet, which is also affiliated with the Urban Farm Collective, a Portland group the transforms unused lots into gardens and donates to the Oregon Food Bank. So eating here puts your money where your mouth is - eating sustainably and supporting accessible sustainable food for others! Plus the food is really yummy!

Sustainability and Reuse
Experience the intersection of DIY spirit, innovation and community sustainability that is an integral part of the Portland experience.
You may spot some creative reuse in the Sweet Suite, sourced from the Rebuilding Center! (Hint: sliding doors, bathroom mirror).
The grand entryway is a cob-built site to see, there’s a showroom of creative reuse projects, and a whole lot of random salvage stuff that just might spark your own project.

Neighborhoods
A short drive or bus trip, or a decent walk from here is the quaint tiny-town-like neighborhood of Kenton. You’ll find good food, coffee, boutiques and antiques, and the “World Famous Kenton Club” which is way more dive bar than world-famous, but they often have live music! The new outdoor spaces make it easy to hang out there.

This is the quiet little residential neighborhood where the Sweet Suite (and my home) is situated. It’s home of Portland’s formal Rose Garden at Peninsula Park, with bike lanes, easy access to Trimet and major roads.

Outings
Less sight-seeing, more immersion in typical Portlander activities.
It’s a brief and somewhat scenic drive from N Portland to Sauvie Island, our agricultural neighbor up the road. Bella Farm is the place to go for you-pick produce and a nice little outing!

This particular gorge hike involves scrambling over fallen timbers and wading through waist deep water to get to that magical moment when you come around a bend and see the falls. I recommend checking out the info online to know what you’re getting into and going on a weekday if it’s summertime.

Driving in Portland: Pedestrians
Cars stop for pedestrians crossing intersections here. In fact, it’s the law. Be careful not to speed around a car that may seem stopped for no reason - there may be someone crossing the street!

Driving in Portland: Unmarked intersections
What if you come to a little 4-way intersection with no stop signs at all? You stop! (Ha! I know, right?!) It wasn’t long ago that Portland was a sleepy town and there are still some of these around.
