In 1893, Fritz Heyn had a representative house built by his Berlin architect Ernst Froehlich on his property in Heynstrasse 8. The family lived in the Beletage, a generously sized and well-appointed apartment on the first floor.

After the war, here in the northwestern part of the park, together with the cenotaphs in Tiergarten and Treptower Park, the third Soviet memorial was erected in Berlin.
