Ponca to Kyle’s Landing Float (10.7 miles)
This is our most popular Buffalo National River canoe trip and, without a doubt, the river’s most scenic. Ponca is home to the finest canoeing in Arkansas and arguably the best paddling in mid-America!
This section is 10.7-miles long and takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete, depending upon the individual, the river level and the amount of time you linger along the way. It features the scenic icons of the upper Buffalo River---majestic Big Bluff and Hemmed-In Hollow, both the tallest of their kind (bluff face and waterfall, respectively) between the Rockies and the Appalachians.

The Hemmed-in Hollow Trail is about five miles round-trip with over 1000 feet of elevation drop to the waterfall. This a difficult trail to hike with steep, loose rock and plenty of stairs to climb! Hemmed-In Hollow Hollow Falls usually is at a trickle unless significant rainfall has occurred within the prior week. When rainy, multiple other other waterfalls appear on the way to the big falls, making the trail slippery and treacherous.

With good reason, this is the most popular hiking trail in the national park, as well as the state of Arkansas. There is never a bad time to hike Lost Valley—it’s as beautiful in winter as it is in springtime.

Hideout Hollow Falls trail is a short two mile out and back trail through second growth timber leading to a high bluff that eventually winds its way to the top of a 37 ft. tall waterfall. The wet weather creek has a couple small water falls just up stream from the main fall. The bluff views and large rock formations make it worth the trip even when the water is not running. Dogs are welcome.
