Fort Casey State Park: Constructed in the late 1800s, Fort Casey was equipped for defense and used as a training facility up to the mid-1940s. The fort houses a pair of rare 10-inch disappearing guns. While the guns were the height of technology in the early 1900s, improvements in warships and the advent of airplanes soon rendered them obsolete. Two additional 3-inch mounted guns are also on display in their original emplacements. You can explore these batteries to your heart’s content.
This park is equipped with an automated pay station for visitors to purchase a one-day or annual Discover Pass. 1280 Engle Road Coupeville
**Fort Casey is great for kite flying and is host to the kite festival. Pack a picnic and enjoy.

The twelve-acre centerpiece of the Meerkerk Gardens is comprised of many garden rooms, which the Meerkerks began creating in the early 1960s. Inspired by the Rothchild’s Exbury Garden in England, the Meerkerks wished to create a fine collection of rhododendrons and companion plants in a Pacific Northwest setting. The twelve acres of mature display gardens are surrounded by forty-three acres of second growth forest, providing space for people to enjoy nature through gardening, hiking, cultural events, and hands-on learning programs. Meerkerk Gardens is open 7-days a week from 9am — 4pm! Admission is $5 per person and they accept cash, checks, and credit cards at the gatehouse entry. 3531 Meerkerk Lane, Greenbank
