Sandy Creek Park is located between Main St. and Marvin Hancock Dr in Jasper, and highlights the beauty of Sandy Creek, which winds its way through the park, circled by a 1-mile surfaced exercise track, which is illuminated at night.

Lake Sam Rayburn is a popular recreation destination, both for boating and fishing, with game fish species in the lake including largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Due to the abundance of bass, it is home to more than 300 tournaments annually, which include tournaments such as ESPN/BASS Masters, BASS Champs, FLW Outdoors, and the Cabela's Texas Team Trail. In 2018, Lake Sam Rayburn was ranked number one by Bassmaster magazine for being the best bass lakes in the nation
The reservoir's capacity is 3,997,600 acre feet and is the largest lake wholly within the state of Texas. The reservoir is operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

With 153,000 acres, the forest lies on the north and south shore of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. There are two officially designated wilderness areas within the forest that are part of the National Wilderness Preservation System:
Turkey Hill Wilderness, Upland Island Wilderness.
