Sightseeing: Historic sights
Inverness and surrounds is steeped in history and many visitors come to explore the Jacobite period and perhaps their own family history. As well as more modern history, the area also has an interesting ancient past and we have suggested a couple of prehistoric sites to explore too.
The location of the last large scale battle fought on British soil. Evocative battlefield, information centre and gift shop.
It is possible to walk to the battlefield through Culloden Woods, or it is a 5 minute drive or bus ride.

Nature and wildlife
Loch Ness is of course, the main natural attraction of the area, but the Moray Coastline is also a fantastic place for walks and wildlife, including the famous Moray dolphins. There are several points along the Moray coast where sea life can be spotted, Spey Bay is our family favourite for a drive along the coast.
The mouth of the River Spey. There is a small dolphin centre here and it is a great place for bird and dolphin watching.
