Sight Seeing & Shopping

Shopping/Groceries in Route to The Jungle House. Flores, an Island located in Santa Elena is a wonderful place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Flores is located just 30 minutes from The Jungle House! You can walk around this picturesque town in 20 minutes winding through cobblestone streets filled with eclectic shops and eateries, as well as a vibrant night life. Enjoy a leisurely boat ride, some delicious food and seriously beautiful views! Due to its proximity to Tikal National Park, Flores has become a backpacker hotspot. Our favorite restaurants in Flores are Amigos for fabulous ambiance and Raices for deliciously prepared brick oven pizzas and refreshing drinks! There is a small mall located at the entrance to the Island of Flores where you will find La Torre Grocery Store and an artisan bakery just across the hall. Be sure to stop here for the best selection of supplies before heading out to The Jungle House. Once you get around the lake, driving through San Andres, you will also have opportunities to stop for hot tortillias, tacos, fruits and vegetables.
Santa Elena is located on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá in the Petén of Guatemala. It is connected by a causeway to its sister town of Flores, the location for Mundo Maya International Airport, which is located just outside the town. Directly across the street from Mundo Maya International Airport, is Maxi Bodega; a shopping mall with a mix of local and international stores and fast food restaurants including a Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Sarita's Ice Cream. Maxi Dispensa; a local grocery chain is a quick stop option for groceries in route to the Jungle House.
