This is our favorite place to enjoy a good glass of wine next to vineyards and great Austrian food. It is the place where Viennese like to hang out - whereas Grinzing is more for tourists. You can spend a whole day in this area. Take the bus to Cobenzl, hike towards Häusl am Stoa (great drinks and view including playground!) and then walk down to Fuhrgassl Huber. There is a bus stop right in front of the restaurant leading back to the inner city and underground.

Donauinsel is great for doing sports, and on hot days you can take a bath on the side where no ships are going. Bring your on food, as many restaurants there are overpriced and not that good. During the summer there are some concerts and events, e.g. Donauinselfest in June

Our favourite spot to go swimming in Vienna. You can literally spend the whole day there! There are separate areas for families and adults. You can find a Treetop Trekking Park, Table Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball courts, Waterslides....
Either take your bath in the Danube river, or choose one of the many pools. For Food/Drinks you will find Take away booths as well as restaurants next to the water.
You can reach it very easily either by car (you need to pay for the parking though) or by public transport. Get off the U1 at Vienna International Center. There is a free shuttle from there to the bath, but that is usually very crowded. The best option is to take the regular bus (92A or 92B) for 3 stops and walk the rest of the way (it's only a 3min walk across the bridge and you pass by a very good ice cream shop).
Opening hours: 9am - 7pm, from the beginning of May to mid of September. Website: http://www.gaensehaeufel.at/_start

You can go there by car or bus - the view is stunning. From there several hiking trails either lead to the Kahlenberg or you walk to one of several Heurigen in Neustift am Walde - avoid Grinzing, it's too touristy! One of our favorite hikes leads over the Jägerwiese to the Häusl am Stoa.

The Alte Donau is great for swimming (e.g. Arbeiterstrandbad), taking a walk or renting a boat. In fact, you can rent boats for a couple of hours and have a picknick or dinner on board. We rented from this provider, but there are several others too: http://www.partyboot.at/

Entertainment & Activities
Even though it is called a museum, it is more a great indoor activity center for kids. For the little ones (8 months - 6 years) there is the "Ozean" an indoor playground that resembles the ocean on 2 floors. There is also a craft studio for kids from 3-12 years and an animated film studio from 8-14 years. As it is very popular, please make sure to book tickets (online/phone) ahead of time. The instructors speak English, some even other languages. More info please find on: http://www.kindermuseum.at/en
