Don’t let the Ward surroundings fool you, this place is spotlessly clean, and the food is great.
For breakfast try anything smothered in their green chile. (And, if they offer their apple-pie
pancakes as a special, you have just hit the jackpot!) For dinner, the food is mostly Italian, but

the cabin. It typically opens in early June, but you can hike the main road (3 miles) to Brainard
Lake for incredible views even before the road to all the trailheads is open to cars. There are
many fantastic trails here, and access to high alpine hikes. Bring a jacket if
you plan to summit, and head out early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.

the cabin. It typically opens in early June, but you can hike the main road (3 miles) to Brainard
Lake for incredible views even before the road to all the trailheads is open to cars. There are
many fantastic trails here, and access to high alpine hikes. Bring a jacket if
you plan to summit, and head out early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.

consider driving to the peak of Trail Ridge Road once it open is late June/early July. Covering
the 48 miles between Estes Park on the park's east side and Grand Lake on the west, eleven
miles of this high highway travel above treeline, the elevation near 11,500 feet where the park's
evergreen forests come to a halt. As it winds across the tundra's vastness to its high point at
12,183 feet elevation, Trail Ridge Road (U.S. 34) offers thrilling views, wildlife sightings and
spectacular alpine wildflower exhibitions.
