A nice swimming beach with black sand that is surrounded by small ponds. The nicer beaches are on the Kohala Coast... white sand and big stretches of beach at Hapuna, Wailea and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel ( you'll need a parking pass and it does fill up quickly on the weekends ).

I would recommend driving around the whole island but cutting it up into two trips so you can take your time to see it, taste it and hear it all.
