Hidden away beneath the hugely popular restaurant, Cambridge Street Kitchen, this lovely, hard to find cocktail bar occupies its own niche in the nightlife of Pimlico. The building itself is a former Victorian pub with a sordid reputation, transformed by the Artist Residence group. There’s a great range of drinks on offer in an intimate, low key setting that also hosts a monthly-changing selection of artwork — courtesy of a partnership with Soho’s Lawrence Alkin Gallery. Head down on Tuesday night for Test Tuesday’s, to see bar manager Steven and his team experiment with cocktails.

Just the other side of Victoria station is this traditional Scottish restaurant and bar, housed in a Regency townhouse complete with a cigar terrace. This place oozes class, with gleaming mahogany and red tones dominating the colour scheme, emulating the feel of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s club. There are multiple separate restaurants and bars within the building, with elegant private dining rooms to hire. As is only fitting, whisky is the order of the night, with Boisdale boasting a collection of rare Scottish malts, alongside a host of enticing cocktails and wines. The cherry on the top of each room is the nightly tunes of live jazz.

No 11 is a gorgeous open plan space with a great sweeping bar, decorated in crisp, clean colours and kept light and airy by the many large, arched windows around its perimeter. The carefully put together menu makes this a great spot to grab a drink or three at any time of day. The classic cocktails, which feature home made syrups and sherbets, range from light and fresh and perfect for brunch, through to more adventurous choices for the evening — if you’ve got a spare day, why not sit and work your way through the list?

Visit Westminster Abbey and see where 16 royal weddings, a lot of funerals and every coronation since 1066 have taken place. That said, due to the fact that Westminster Abbey is still a fully functioning church, the visiting times often vary.

Big Ben is actually the nickname of the Great Bell inside Westminster’s iconic clock tower, but even locals think ‘Big Ben’ when they see the Elizabeth Tower. No matter, it looks great whatever you call it. You can’t get inside for a tour until 2020 due to maintenance work, but you’re a minute away from the river, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey here, so it’s an easy visit.

Parks & Nature
London’s oldest royal park and, essentially, Buckingham Palace’s front garden, St James’ Park runs alongside The Mall and offers an easy escape from the traffic noise of Trafalgar Square. The two islands in its lake are home to wildlife (see the pelicans being fed at 2.30pm daily) and there’s a Princess Diana Memorial Walk to follow if you fancy some gentle exercise.

At 1.5 miles long and about a mile wide, Hyde Park is one of the largest of London's Royal Parks. The land was appropriated in 1536 from the monks of Westminster Abbey by Henry VIII for hunting deer and, despite opening to the public in the early 1600s, was only frequented by the upper echelons of society. London's oldest boating lake, The Serpentine, is at the bottom of Hyde Park. It's not especially beautiful but is home to ducks, coots, swans and tufty-headed grebes, and is also of great historic interest. It was a hotspot for mass demonstrations in the nineteenth century and remains so today.
