Walk west along Riverside trail and you can take the Bronson St/Bridge stairs to get to Carleton U or continue on to Hogs Back Falls/beach and the start of the Ottawa locks. Take the path along the locks to find yourself passing by Ottawa U again with Dows lake on the far side of the docks & restaurants including Little Italy. The path will take you all the way to the market and Parliament Hill. Walk east and you are in for a nice nature walk for as long as you like it. Happy to help if you have any questions.
