Along the way, we'll listen to a diverse playlist that will match up with the murals and venues. Other things to note: This tour ends at the intersection of 13th & U NW, 8 blocks from the starting point. Typically I hold tours rain or shine, unless the weather posses a safety hazard (lightning, ice, tornado, etc). If a weather-related emergency arises, I will be in contact with the group to cancel, delay, or reschedule. The tour includes long periods of standing and walking outdoors. Please wear comfortable and weather-appropriate footwear and clothing. Restrooms may not be available during your tour; please plan accordingly.
Bracelet making in 100-year-old building
We will begin with a peek in the Boutique, featuring jewelry handcrafted by award-winning US artists, and a behind-the-scenes look at my working jewelry studio. I will also share some history of my 1890 building, including a copy of the handwritten deed to the original house. In the workshop you will use a combination of specialized jeweler's hand tools (the same that were used to make jewelry in the 19th century) and modern equipment to make your bracelet. First, you will hammer steel letter stamps to impress inspirational words, phrases, and designs of your choice onto a copper strip. Then, you will form the strip into a cuff bracelet with hammers and steel tools, oxidize (blacken) the metal, and polish to your desired finish. You will go home with a meaningful piece of jewelry that you created with your own hands. We limit the workshop to four students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. You can relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Other things to note Our studio workstations are separated by plexiglass barriers. Hand sanitizer, masks, and disposable smocks are available. Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.

Hidden Union Station
Join Atlas Obscura in partnership with Union Station Redevelopment Corporation for a behind-the-scenes tour of Washington Union Station, where you will learn the secrets of Daniel Burnham's 1907 architectural masterpiece! The opening of DC's opulent Union Station energized the city and forever changed how Washingtonians traveled. More than a century later, the station still buzzes with travelers, trains, and history. On this approximately one and a half hour tour, we will explore spaces that the 37 million passengers, tourists, and shoppers who pass through Union Station rarely get to see. You will climb steps and open doors into areas where the public is not normally granted access, be shown unique vantage points to view and photograph the station, gain up-close looks at the magnificent details and ornamentation of the station, as well as learn what is being done today to preserve Union Station for years to come. Great for groups visiting Washington, DC. A percentage of the proceeds will go toward ongoing preservation efforts at Union Station. Other things to note: Proof of Vaccination is required. All participants will receive a complimentary Union Station tote bag and a coffee table book on the history of the station.
Bromo Arts District Tour
The Bromo Arts District has some exciting and rapid changes happening within. This area has recently received the prestigious distinction of being an arts and entertainment district which is a state designation. This means artists which live and work within its borders are privy to certain tax breaks. There are live/work apts with galleries and pop-up events (some of our tours will be scheduled during these events). There are a variety of murals which are part of larger series throughout the city. We will be able to see work by artists: Michael Owen, Jahru, Jay Coleman, and NEVER 2501. Many of these walls are of very high-caliber but the gentrification of this area is such that it is very likely we will lose many of these walls in the next 5 years. We will also learn of the anchoring arts organizations which have been here for many years, as well as the up and coming newer businesses helping to bring new life to this forgotten area of town. We will begin our journey at the bunshop on read st. BIPOC owned and offering a very unique selection of eats and drinks, as well as its eclectic atmosphere which has gold accents and unforgettable decor. This is one of the only cafes offering Thai tea and vietnamese iced coffee, as well as rotiboys (a malaysian pastry).
