Parks & Nature

Baylands offers a multitude of trails for jogging, biking, dog walking. My favorite is a 3 mile loop at the end of Embarcadero at Bixby Park. Dogs are welcome on leash. If you're looking to go further, the Baylands trail offers a 6 mile loop along the water. Biking can take you along paved trails going south to Shoreline park, where you can enjoy visiting the Shoreline Cafe on the lake and even rent paddle boats, sailboats and Stand up Paddle boards.

When visiting Stanford and Palo Alto, one must experience "The Dish" this hiking trail is a 3-ish mile loop. It can be quite strenuous for some, but most generally fit people can manage it just fine. The first very short up hill is a challenge, however once you conquer that and you get to the fork, go right for a nice walk with hills of gradual incline. Continue around and at the top, you will see "the dish" and experience amazing views of the bay, and all of Stanford University. If you want you can also, bike up to the dish, lock up bikes and not deal with parking. Dogs are not allowed at all at the dish.

Arastradero is another great place to hike, it offers many more trails than "the dish" and all unpaved. It's less crowded at times than the dish and offers beautiful views and manageable trails for runnig/hiking. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Arts & Culture

The Cantor Museum is a great place to bike to at Stanford, as parking is quite difficult. Not only is the museum free, but it offers a section on the history of the Leland Family, and the making of the University. Also, outside of the museum is the Rodan Garden, and plenty of sculptures, including the Gates of Hell, and are amazing to view. Biking around the rest of campus is great, as its so easy to navigate, and crossing campus into the athletic fields and stadium, is a great way to tour all the amazing facilities. Also, has a great little cafe for lunch.

Essentials

Whole Foods is 3 blocks away. From 350 Channing, you would go left down Channing and can turn right on Bryant, left on Homer and continue West for a couple blocks. WF will be on your right.

Getting Around

Caltrain is 4 blocks walking from 350 Channing. This can deposit you right into San Francisco to start a day of sight seeing or 2 blocks from AT&T Park where the San Francisco Giants play.If you need to transfer to Bart, you can stop at Milbrae and transfer to be dropped in SF just below Union Square. Caltrain also goes south to San Jose, and drops off right at the SAP Arena, where the SJ Sharks play. Caltrain also takes bikes, and you can spend the day touring on bikes. One great way to spend the day, is taking the train with the bikes, getting off at the last stop in SF. Ride along the Embarcadero, you will pass AT&T Park, the Ferry Building (great place to eat lunch/dinner), Fisherman's Wharf, and onto the Golden Gate Bridge. Once across the bridge, you head down to Sausalito, and can call it a day by ferrying back to SF. If you want to venture further, you can continue to Tiburon, grab the ferry back to SF, and again jump on the train back to Palo Alto. That is a day trip to be remembered and very doable for most.

Food Scene

Philz is great, ONLY if you have time to wait. Each cup is hand dripped and a real treat, but takes time to make. The iced mojito is really quite delicious.

Newer addition to downtown Palo Alto, sports bar, plenty of seating outside, as inside it's really too loud to hear conversation, but good BBQ. The cheddar biscuits with honey are pretty amazing, and the chicken wings are smoked, not fried and really good.

Your original old fashioned diner, but so much better. Ice Cream, Milkshakes, Burgers and really great unique sandwiches, and breakfast as well. Besides my son works there, Mon/Fri afternoons. They close early 5:00.
