A unique campground

Larry & Penny Thompson is one of the last portions of wilderness in Miami-Dade County, with wildflowers, palmettos, and rock pinelands. The facility truly harmonizes the recreation experience with Miami-Dade County finest natural assets. The parkland, which was once part of the Richmond Naval Station, was acquired in December 1974 as part of a 1,010 acre land transfer from the federal government and included the Zoo Miami property. In the campground, you'll see remnants of fruit groves, which once belonged to the University of Miami. These groves act a natural buffer in the campground and feature avocado, mango and lychee trees.
Even if you've been living under a rock you've probably heard of Miami, FL for its night life, beaches, and fancy living. But it can also be very relaxing with 270 acres of woodland surrounding you. Our lovely modern RV is perfectly situated for you to enjoy the best of both worlds without paying crazy hotel prices all while having your own space. If you are looking for night life you will definitely find it in downtown Miami which is a short 30 min drive. The famous Miami Zoo is just 5 miles away (you could bike there if you wanted a little exercise). If you are looking to take a trip to the Keys, we are 44 miles from Key Largo and lots of tourist favorites. Coral Castle is another Must see beautiful museum and only 20 min away. As for shopping, there is a Publix 6 minutes away and a super Walmart 12 minutes away so you'll be able to find just about anything you need while staying with us.
