Access to Olana’s 250-acre landscape is free. The park is open every day from 8 AM to sunset. We encourage you to explore Frederic Church’s designed landscape with five miles of carriage roads as a way to enjoy the outdoors. The landscape and carriage roads at Olana State Historic Site are free to visit and open to all every day of the year from 8AM to sunset. Please note that Olana is a Carry-In, Carry-Out, tobacco-free environment. Dogs are welcome outdoors and must be leashed at all times.

Hannacroix Creek Preserve Also known as HCP because who can pronounce Hannacroix? The nearest you can get is to say "Hannah-Craw," like Le Croix seltzer. Anyway, this place is straight up gorgeous in fall. Hudson River School of Art Trail If you've ever seen a painting of the Hudson River or Catskill Mountains, chances are it was painted by one of the disciples of the Hudson River School, a dreamy, idealized style that showcased the raw beauty and power of the natural world. The movement started with Thomas Cole, a painter from England who fell in love with the Catskills and relocated to paint the area full time. Recognizing the beauty of the Catskill region in autumn, Cole and the other Hudson River painters often captured the beauty of the Catskills fall foliage in their works of art. Today, the Thomas Cole National Historic Site is open for guests and is the first stop on the Hudson River School of Art Trail, a series of hiking trails that lead to vistas immortalized by Cole and practitioners of his style. Cole's depictions of the Catskill Mountains throughout the seasons helped inform early conservation efforts, and partly due to his brushstrokes, the views he captured are largely unchanged for today's visitor.

Pratt Rock

Often referred to as New York’s Mount Rushmore, this larger-than-life monument to one man’s achievements in the name of industry is a must-hike-to-see while you’re in the Great Northern Catskills. Zadock Pratt was an early settler of Greene County who happened to rise in his career from a tanner, to a banker, then finally to the House of Representatives. When he had reached the pinnacle of his career, he commissioned stone workers to immortalize his life’s achievements on a nearby cliff. The result: a series of carvings in stone depicting the highlights of his life. Hike the short, 3.1-mile round-trip off of Route 23E just outside of Prattsville to see this one-of-a-kind spectacle. Perfect for beginners, you’ll gain 900+ feet of elevation, and get a spectacular view of the surrounding valley from several points along the trail. Parking is available at the trailhead. As you begin your ascent, you may notice a few older tombstones. This is where Pratt’s beloved horses and dogs were buried. Wear sturdy shoes, practice safe hiking, and enjoy discovering more about Pratt’s life. Better yet, stop by the Zadock Pratt Museum to learn more. Open to the public every day, and there is no admission.
