Water Parks

We have to include Siam Park - it is the #1 Water Park in Europe, if not the World. Its not cheap, but if you go at the start of your trip its worth getting the 'return visit' tickets before you leave the park - they are valid for 2 weeks. If you are into the 'rides' make sure to get fast-passes - they can be bought at locker rooms and in some of the shops inside the park. We go around all the rides early in the day when the queues are shorter and use the fast-passes later in the day. When you enter the park I suggest to head straight to the main wave-pool + beach area where there is a locker room (there are other locker rooms before this, but this one is best if you plan to camp by the wave pool and you are also beside the main catering area for lunch). Surprisingly, food isn't very expensive inside the park, but drinks are. They should allow you to bring in a large bottle (or two) of water and you can wrap things up in your towels if you really want to smuggle in some sandwiches ;-)

Cheap & cheerful compared to Siam Park, but it is likely to be less crowded and probably a bit less stressful for those with younger kids. There are some decent rides for older children but its not as spectacular as Siam Park. The food here isn't great and definitely not value for money so smuggling in sandwiches is worth it here! Again, they should be OK with a big bottle of water on top of your towels, but other food & drink could be confiscated [they were quite relaxed recently - any customers were good during the pandemic!].

Animal Parks

This is a day-long trip and if you are driving it is important to get off to an early start. There is parking on-site, but it can fill up quite quickly once the park opens and it spoils the experience if you have to spend 30 minutes looking for street parking after more than an hour's drive to get to the park! You can also book a coach visit where you don't have to worry about the drive and parking, but you lose the flexibility of choosing when to leave. It is an amazing experience, but can sometimes get very crowded - at least it used to in pre-pandemic times. Check on local forums to see what its like these days.

This is at the top of Chayofa - up the hill from Los Cristianos. It is the local version of Loro Park and partners with Aqualand so you can get twin-tickets at a discount. When compared with Loro Park its a lot closer, but not as spectacular (or as crowded!). The unique aspect is the "Eagle Show" - its also known as "Parque des Aguiles" (Eagle Park) and there is an amazing open-air show with many different birds of prey zooming around the main amphitheatre. It's definitely worth a visit, but you might not find enough to keep you here for the full day. Food isn't great, but better than Aqualand.

Nearby Neighbourhoods

You can visit via taxi
Los Cristianos has a more local feel than its neighbour Las Americas. It was originally a fishing village, but those days are long gone. But you can go on dolphin trips and other sea-based excursions from the harbour here. There is also the best 'white sand' beach in Tenerife - Playa Las Vistas - located between the main harbour and Las Americas. If you are tired of black sand getting into your swimming costume then this is the best beach for you! There is also a great Fruiteria and some good restaurants here! The main bus station for the south is in Los-C and if you are catching a bus from our house you may need to change at the station here - its worth taking some time to wander around and have lunch or breakfast here. Most restaurants are well-priced as there is a lot of competition! Parking can be tricky; if you want to park by Playa Las Vistas use the harbour car park - it is paid parking, but it can be almost impossible to find on-street parking in this area. On the other side of the town (keep straight at the main round-about when you come into Los-Cristianos) it is easier to find on-street parking, but don't turn off into the centre of the town. At the bottom of the main road down from the round-about there is usually plenty of parking - this is also where our Property Manager has their offices (so use them for Google directions!).

Las Americas was originally modelled on Las Vegas in the 1960's and you can still find traces of that heritage. If you want to do duty free shopping or go partying at night then this is the place to go. There are many hotels and tourist complexes here so its almost always quite busy and some parts can get quite crowded. There is quite a lot of on-street parking so you can usually find a space, although at certain times of the day or at week-ends you might have to drive around a bit, or park away from the main seafront. Worth a visit to see for yourself!

More Distant Neighbourhoods

These are a bit further afield - for those with a rental car.
This is a more Spanish-style resort a bit further up the coast. Lots of nice restaurants, black sand beach with good amenities and nice costal walks. https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g1889362-d1224577-Reviews-Playa_San_Juan-Playa_San_Juan_Guia_de_Isora_Tenerife_Canary_Islands.html

The port area can be a bit crowded, but many sea excursions start from here. You can also drive along the seafront and you'll come to some nice black-sand beaches. And, of course, those big cliffs lie in the distance - best seen from a boat! This can be a nice day-trip without spending too much time in the car.

Five-star beach area between Playa Torviscas and La Caletta. Partly white-sand beach. May get crowded at times, but there is a lovely walk all along the coast out towards La Caletta.

El Medano is beyond Los Criastianos towards the airport. It is right on the corner of the Island and catches the trade wind blowing down the East coast of the Island - its perfect if you are into wind-surfing. Note that it may be a bit far/expensive for a taxi ride. And watch out if there is a Claim - when the wind blows from the Sahara - as it can be like sitting in a hair-dryer at full heat!
