Food scene

Barbican is an energetic waterside area where you will find many attractions like Fine restaurants , shops , Gin Distillery, Barbican Theatre , retail art Galleries, National Aquarium etc. The historical side of Barbican is the cobblestone lanes and containing 100 listed buildings and full of the architecture of a historic fishing port . Only a few parts of the city with buildings escape from the destruction of The Blitz during the second world war. If you enjoy history, why not explore Elizabethan House in New Street and discover and explore what a basic B&B would have been like back then -very minimal and not much else . It was built just before 1600 , mostly likely built by businessmen, shop owners for rental purposes and if they have families they would live near their boats and businesses as at that time the Barbican was busy and bustling.

The lighthouse is one of Plymouth's most iconic tourist attractions. It was orginally built on Eddystone reef in the 1700s until erosion of the ledge it was then forced to relocate on Plymouth Hoe.

Gateway from Plymouth to Cornwall

It is only a 5 mins drive to Torpoint ferry ( a car and pedestrian chain ferry) from 3 bed (Essex st) accommodation.
Torpoint ferry at Devonport, Plymouth (PL1 4FL) is approx 7-9mins drive from the 3 bed ( Essex st) accommodation. Torpoint ferry is a car and pedestrian ferry which takes you which takes you across Torpoint Cornwall in just 15 mins water ride with your car . During the water ride you can take a quick walkabout and admire the scenic views of Plymouth Sound. Mount Edgcumbe house and Country Park , Antonys House is nearby so you may wish to explore those places too. It costs 2.00 per car for a return ticket. For all National Trust houses I suggestion to call them first in case there is COVID19 restrictions on opening times but the public park area outside should be unaffected. The other route to Mt Edgecombe is Cremyll Ferry(PL1 3RJ) is a foot ferry from Stonehouse - it’s about 7mins drive from the property . Cremyll ferry is a better option to visit Mount Edgcumbe Park if you intend not to drive. There is carpark near the port . On your return from Mt Edgcumbe, you can take a water taxi back to Plymouth. This water takes you to 2 destinations Barbican or The Royal William yard. Fares:- adult single ticket £2, child single tickets and bikes £1. Adult concession tickets £1 and child concession 0.50 pence.
