Sightseeing

Full of wonder and history, my friends at Gallopers tours are wonderful for a mounted tour. Also I have an experience up on air bnb.

Best way to get around without getting ripped off is UBER!

Taking the subway is ok too, but if you don’t read or speak Arabic don’t take a taxi at all and probably avoid the subway unless your not shy about asking directions. Uber or Careem are the best and cheapest ways to get around period.

Traveling outside of Cairo by train

Make sure you try and book and express, make sure you don’t get any ticket under 50 egytpian pounds (unless you want to get on a human cattle train from the 1930’s 😂😂) and do you best to make sure you ask for first class which is also called AC1 on the ticket... if they give you a ticket and you asked for first class and express and you see on the ticket that the price printed is under 50 pounds or it says AC2 then kick up a stink! Becuse yes... even the ticket people sometimes will try to over charge you or pull one over on you

Traveling out of Cairo by bus

I like GO BUS and I always make sure to buy tickets that are over 250 Egyptian pounds. They are the comfortable ones and newer.

Dress code

You don’t have to cover your head 50% or more don’t. Just dress semi modest, try and stay away from short shorts or skirts, and no tank tops, tube tops,or strap tops. It’s not dangerous or illegal but it’s just not worth having to navigate stares and unwanted attention everywhere you go all the time. It gets annoying haha.

Tipping

Egypt is a huge tipping culture! But for regular tips to actual people giving services is between 5 to 25 pounds, that includes taxi or Uber unless your an a particularly long drive like over 30 min. For you average beggar most people will always carry one pound notes or coins at all times to hand out randomly, don’t give more than 5 unless you want to get swamped and harassed by every person begging on the street.
