The Harbourfront Centre hosts tons of weekly events, and is a nice place to hangout and enjoy Lake Ontario. They often have a small art exhibit running featuring local art. You can also rent bikes and kayaks near the centre. The ferry docks (to go to Toronto island) are located nearby. Water taxis can also be accessed here for an alternative mode of transportation to the island.

A must-do for any visitor. Toronto Island boasts the best views of the city. Picnic, enjoy the beach, explore, bike rides, or enjoy a nice cup (or few) of sangria. It's a nice day or afternoon trip. You can catch the ferry to the island from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. It costs $8 roundtrip to/from the island. There are several islands to choose from. Centre Island is mainly for families and their kids. Hanlan's offers beautiful beaches (both nude and clothed beaches) and is where most people in their 20's/30's head to (including myself). Wards Island is the third island, offering a cute cafe and plenty of green space. There is less to do on Wards, however you can walk to Hanlan's from Wards (about a 25 minute walk). There is a bike path that wraps around the island... it is beautiful. If interested, you can rent bikes on the island as well (however, it may be cheaper to rent them in the city then take them on the ferry to the island... there is no extra fee to bring your bike to the island).
