The best way to enter Joshua Tree would be by driving on I-10 East and entering from the park's East entrance.
That way you can drive through the entire park, exit at Joshua Tree town.
It is a small but really fun town to explore and to have a little bite, coffee, etc.
After that, you will drive down directly to Palm Springs.
