Neighbourhoods

Mijas Pueblo depends on tourism but move beyond the main plaza and tourist shops you find a genuine Spanish village life where you will see the locals do their daily shopping at the little supermarkets and local fruit market catching up on village news and gossips. In the summer you can see them sitting outside their houses to chat with neighbours and enjoy the coolness of the evening. Down on the plaza you will see the local children playing while the parents sit in the shade chatting. Everyone seems to know each other and it makes for a very safe place to live or visit. Crime is incredibly low and if the pick pocket tourists attempt to visit the pueblo word and photos are quickly texted to all the business making it impossible for the thieves to operate - for this reason you very rarely find them in Mijas Pueblo.

Food scene

Obviously I have a connection to this restaurant 😃 but when it comes to having fun it is most of the regular visitors first port of call when they arrive in the pueblo. The music events that run all year and the friendly welcome that Chema and his staff give everyone creates a environment for meeting new friends. Here the menu is simple offering tapas or full menu using locally bought produce cooked fresh by a Spanish Cheff and the wines are particularly good - Chema travelled throughout Spain over many years and his experience is reflected in the choice of wines on offer.

The owner is the Cheff here and the food is modern and delicious and while there is no particular atmosphere it certainly is worth a visit for its food.

Family run old fashioned quality service restaurant- a bit more expensive than other restaurants but it is reflected in the food snd quality service from the owners themselves. They have a little terrace that overlooks the main plaza and is an enjoyable dining experience that I would recommend.

The pizzas here are really good! They are huge so good for sharing along with one of their salads. Garlic bread is as big as the pizza so be careful when ordering😁 pasta dishes are so so - this place is all about the pizza- really fast and good service in a nicely decorated restaurant.

For a true Spanish experience visit this buzzing bar/restaurant on a weekend night. Flamenco music and locals letting their hair down is worth seeing snd indeed joining in. It has gone a bit Spanish disco in recent times so maybe a bit too loud for some. Food can be good but this place is all about having a Spanish experience.

This restaurant is in one of the original houses InThe village and is so worth seeing! Make sure you take a trip to the toilet to see the stairs snd waiting seats. Service here is particularly good with very knowledgeable waiters and the food can mostly be great but not always. I recommend the crepes for dessert.

Food here is always really delicious and because of this it is busy. This unfortunately leads to stressed waiters who are not friendly so the overall experience is not great so while I recommend highly the food try going when it is quiet to get the best experience. A really cute shop is part of this restaurant and worth a little Visit too.

In the main plaza this cafe offers you the comfort of a cooked English breakfast and really good lunch menu. The quiche are homemade and delicious and the sticky steak sandwich is highly recommend. Fantastic service here from a funny waiter. Only open until 5pm.

Shopping

Exposición artesanal de España on calle Malaga. Genuine hand crafted ceramics from spain and well worth paying that little extra to get the quality product thst will last for years. Don’t be tempted by the loud colourful cheaper ceramics in the tourist shops as they break easily snd don’t last.
The best shop for genuine quality artesanal ceramics. Huge selection to choose from
