Saratoga Beach is considered by many as the ultimate stretch of shimmering sand on the sheltered east coast of Vancouver Island. The tide along this stretch of the shoreline goes out for over a quarter of a mile, creating a hard-packed oceanfront playground perfect for children. The gently sloping beach continues for well over a mile into the calm waters of the Salish Sea (Strait of Georgia), creating warm, shallow and safe swimming conditions, free from powerboat traffic, deep water or strong currents.

At low tide the sandy beach is incredible and expansive. At low tide there is no shortage of sand for long walks, sand castles or just hanging out on the beach. This beach is a very popular spot for locals especially due to its close proximity to down town Comox. Dogs are also welcome on this beach although leashing of pets is required between March 01 and May 20. Fire pits are provided for those wanting to cook of just hang out by the fire, and there are also available restrooms. There is ample parking but it does fill up fast, so be sure to go early.

The 15 ships that make up the Royston breakwater span the age of sail, steam, and diesel-turbine engines. They include three frigates, two destroyers, two whalers, two three-masted Cape Horn windjammers, two lumber carriers, a steel case-oil freighter, and three steam tugs. The ships were sunk over a quarter of a century, starting in 1936.

Elk Falls Provincial Park featuring the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, is also a must see and do. Starting off there is plenty of parking and the trail leading to the bridge has spectacular views of Elk Falls. The trail in itself is an easy walk about 30 minutes round trip, there are plenty of benches along the way to stop, rest and take in all the sites and sounds of this beautiful old growth forest. At the end leading to the waterfall there are approx 70 stairs, but the effort is well worth it.
