Charleston is called the Holy City because of the quality of churches. In the historic district, nothing can be built that is taller than the highest church steeple. You can see, smell, taste and hear the history as you stroll through the cobblestone streets with the horse carriage tours. Be sure to try some benne wafers (you can find them for sale in the Charleston City Market) and shrimp and grits (82 Queen serves some of the best I've tried).

This is the Charleston you see in magazines! The homes are beautiful and the gardens perfectly manicured. I highly recommend strolling along the Battery and through the streets to get a feel for the historic city.

Amazing pastries, divine chocolates and yummy baguette sandwiches (get there early if you want a sandwich for lunch as they only make a setnumber for the day and when they sell out, there's no more for the day.
