Western environment that will likely rub you the wrong way if you're a Democrat. ;) Eat here and then keep driving west on scenic Happy Jack Rd for a beautiful day trip. Veer off into Curt Gowdy state park if you have time for a hike. Eventually you'll reach I-80 and can head back east into Cheyenne, or turn around and enjoy Happy Jack Rd the other direction. :)

About an hour west of Cheyenne, Laramie is home to the University of Wyoming. If you like "college towns", this will not disappoint. Laramie has a variety of restaurants (we love Altitude Steakhouse and Born in a Barn), a great little ice cream shop (Big Dipper), and the campus is a beautiful place to visit/walk around.

Plan to spend a couple hours here (in the summer, bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic). It's about 2 hours from Cheyenne. You can combine the trip with a visit to Register Cliff.
