Local life
CAMPO SANTA MARGHERITA and the surrounding area is cheaper and quieter than other parts of Venice. This is one of the beating hearts of the town. Mostly you’ll find university students and locals here, either working, sipping coffee or aperitifs, and simply going about their day. This is where I spent most of my time as a college student. In Campo Santa Margherita you can also find the Orient Express, an affordable but tasty restaurant serving middle-eastern food with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The place is run and managed by refugees.
Campo Santa Margherita it’s a 10 min walk from the bus/train station. From there you can easily go to Ponte dell'Accademia and on towards Rialto and/or San Marco.

Offerta gastronomica
Il Bottegon and Lo Squero are located next to each other and offer a gourmet selection of "cicchetti" , the Venetian typical finger food. It’s cheap and tasty, and best accompanied by good local prosecco. From here you will be able to see the last gondola workshop in Venice right on the other side of the canal!

If you want to try GOOD pastry you should go to DIDOVICH, my favorite bakery in Venice. It's located in Campo Santa Marina, not far from San Marco. They also do very tasty "pizzette" that is tiny pizzas made with savory puff pastry. If you are lucky enough to hang around here during Carnival then you MUST stop here and try the "frittelle", typical fried pastry that we only eat during this special time of the year (I love the plain one, but most of all the custard one is exceptional).

View
From Zattere you can enjoy the view over the Giudecca Canal and the Giudecca Island. Compared to the narrow streets and spaces in Venice, this place is like a breath of fresh air with a wide horizon and stunning view both on sunny and rainy days. In Zattere you can try DA NICO’s “gianduiotto”, iced hazelnut ice-cream served with tons of artisanal whipped cream – high in calories, it's a perfect snack after a long walk across town.
