To the northwest of the monastery, shortly before reaching it, are the remains of the medieval village of Santa Creu de Rodes, including the church of Santa Helena de Rodes.

Montgrí Castle is a military fortification declared a cultural asset of national interest. It was built between 1294 and 1301 by King Jaume II, at the top of the Montgrí massif. The climb is a walk of (about) an hour and a half. From the castle there are the best views of the whole Empordà and the Costa Brava.
